As part of his Grade 10 personal project, Muhammed Amin chose to deliver a community basketball tournament, as this not only would give him the opportunity to showcase his organizational, leadership, and problem-solving abilities in a real setting, but also aligned with his passion for basketball.
His idea was to offer a community-wide tournament – open to all ages and skill levels – whether a seasoned basketball player already playing in a team, or a beginner that wants to try the sport out. He wanted to provide a platform for basketball lovers to compete and celebrate the sport, while promoting the many health, fitness and social elements of the sport.
Muhammad project-managed the whole event – from initial idea, through organizing logistics, advertising/marketing, registrations, tournament rules and guidelines, designing the format for the tournament, creating the match schedule, securing qualified referees from nearby Jeddah, and getting a good number of volunteers to do the time and score-keeping for the concurrent matches that would be played.
His organization, leadership, and attention to detail was excellent, culminating in 12 teams taking part in a hugely successful tournament. The teams were asking for the tournament to take place on a more regular basis (a true sign of a great event)!
Well done to Muhammad on a successful project delivered!
