Our TKS students in Grades 11 and 12 have the opportunity to undertake a WISER (Work Internship, Student Experience in Research) placement at KAUST – in the academic/research area of the university, or in one of the administrative departments – during Semester 1 and Semester 2 of the school year.
In addition, KEY offers a WISER Summer Program – a four-week full-time program, open to TKS students in Grades 11 and 12, and undergraduate university students whose families live at KAUST, offering internships and group activities and projects.
The WISER 2024 Summer Program welcomed 76 interns of 18 different nationalities. The internships took place in the academic divisions of Biological and Environmental Science & Engineering, Computer, Electrical and Mathematical Science & Engineering, and Physical Science & Engineering, in the KAUST Smart Health Initiative, the Imaging & Characterization Core Lab, the Prototyping & Product Development Core Lab, and in KAUST Innovation/National Transformation Institute… and in support departments, including Finance, Government Affairs, IT, and Campus & Community.
WISER provides real work experience in offices and labs across the Campus, and in addition to the work placement, the student cohort also attended learning sessions, and developed joint projects, which they showcased at the WISER 2024 Expo.
