TKS Business Students develop a business plan for KAUST!

International Open Access Week is celebrated by individuals, institutions and organizations around the world, and is an opportunity for the academic and research community to continue to learn about the potential benefits of Open Access, to share what they have learned with colleagues, and to inspire wider participation in helping to make Open Access the new norm in scholarship and research.  Providing Open Access to information has the power to transform the way research and scientific inquiry are conducted, and has direct and widespread implications for academia, medicine, science, industry… and for society as a whole.

The Theme for 2023 was “Community over Commercialization” – an invitation to encourage candid conversations about which approaches to open scholarship prioritize the best interests of the public and the academic community.

As part of KAUST’s participation in Open Access Week 2023, the Grade 11 TKS business students were given the challenge to develop a business plan for a new University Press organization.  TKS student teams were given 10 days to develop their plan, and the plans were presented by the students at an event on Thursday, October 26 on the University Campus.  49 Grade 11s took part – in 6 teams.  The students’ business plans were judged by a panel including representatives from TKS, the University Library, and KAUST Entrepreneurship Center… and the judges certainly challenged our young entrepreneurs with direct and challenging questions!
